Portales, NM – The Roosevelt County Detention Center is pleased to announce visitation for detainees will resume on Monday, March 15. The visitation will be on a modified schedule with limitations. Detention Center Administration has met with detainees to advise of the return to visitation and the new process.
“We are able to reinstate outside visitation for our detainee population thanks to the joint efforts of our staff and detainees,” stated Administrator Justin Porter. “We have effectively managed to prevent any COVID-19 outbreaks within the facility due to the strong COVID Safe Practices (CSP) and enhanced protocols implemented. As long as the facility and the visitors can work together to maintain CSP, the visitation will be allowed under the modified rules and schedules.”
The detainee will be responsible for signing up for visitation and allowed one visitor for 30 minutes on their assigned day. Extensive cleaning and sanitation practices will be conducted between visitors. CSP practices will be followed, to include masking and social distancing. Visitors will be screened before access to the facility is granted. Visitors are allowed to bring in identification and keys ONLY.
The facility implemented rigorous procedures and protocols early on in response to COVID-19 and continues to maintain these standards. All staff and detainees are being monitored closely for any signs or symptoms and temperatures are taken twice daily. The staff and detainee population continue to be tested weekly through the State’s surveillance program
